Careful Conservation

The conservation of paintings requires a sensitive and highly considered approach. Treatments are guided by the nature of the artwork, its age, the materials used and the level of intervention required to stabilise or improve its condition.

Where appropriate, work may involve surface cleaning, consolidation of fragile areas, stabilisation of paint layers, repair to canvas or panel supports, and sympathetic restoration to areas of loss or damage. Each stage is carried out with respect for the integrity of the original work.
